An Important Policy Change Required After Covid-19

Indian Companies and Debts: over the period, the Indian companies have become been living on high debts. It had become almost a way of running successful business. The annual interest burden of almost all companies kept on increasing. The debts taken by even the profit- making companies from the banks kept on increasing and in process banks became very much loaded with increasing percentages of NPAs pushing them nearer to bankruptcy. The influence of politicians in keeping on influencing banks to grant loans to such companies continued. Many of the companies followed even unscrupulous methods and influences to keep on running this way. Those are some who came in news when they managed skip to safe havens….Mallya, Choksi, Modi, …thousands of them. How many of us knew before this news report that RIL, the biggest company of India with the richest man of the country and perhaps Asia heading it was the highest indebted company. As reported, ‘RIL is India’s most valuable listed firm, with a market capitalization of Rs 9.25 lakh crore. It is also one of the highest indebted companies in India, with a gross debt of over Rs 3 lakh crore, and net debt of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Interestingly, it is also one of the most cash rich companies with over Rs 1.3 lakh crore cash in hand. ‘ However, in August last year, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani said he has pledged to make the company a ‘zero-net-debt’ firm. And now Reliance Industries Ltd, on a quest to become a net-zero-debt company, has announced to go for a rights issue of equity shares in its board meeting on 30 April 2020. The debt is not legacy of our country. The practice has been highly denounced in all our ancient scriptures..except for Charvaka, who talked of

This lock down of Covid-19 has revealed how poor is our business system, where the companies or industrialists do not create a good enough contingency fund that can take care of such situation. But look at the reality, all the business men and company heads who have appealed to the government that they can’t pay their grassroots workers and other employees, must be having the same luxurious living styles that were having before the suspension of the business because of this global calamity called Covid-19. Will our popularly elected government and Indian policy makers take some lessons and bring forth some mandatory provisions to meet such emergencies?

We, as retired persons with no fat pensions or any other incomes but the savings of years in bank FDs with every six monthly decrease in interest rates are ready to keep the household workers away from their work, paid on humanitarian ground. I wish all rich persons, if they expect respects from the common people, will change their attitudes, so that the welfare democratic state like India don’t go in mesh and become sick economy. All these people must take of millions of people who have turned destitute so and not exploit them by forcing them to take loans at huge risks from unscrupulous money lenders.

Migrants- Problems or Solutions!

Maharashtra’s asking six states to take back 3.5 lacs migrants so late is highly irresponsible. These migrants have been part of building the economy of Maharashtra for just the minimal remunerations that they get for their hard work they do almost for long hours every day. The states named in the list UP, Bihar, MP, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. It is strange to see the name of the state of Gujarat that used to be the part of Maharashtra till the reorganisation of states on the basis of language spoken and used. I hardly imagine of Gujaratis as menial grassroots workers. It must be the hatred against Gujarati that would have come out at this time. Will Maharashtra like Ambani and Adani and their clans to shift. The government in Maharashtra over the years could have done away with these migrants well in time after the lock down was announced pursuing them with the reasons. However, all this has started with the different views of the CMs of different states. Yogi Adityanath was perhaps advised to arrange the transport and get the well publicised kindness and compassion with populist reasons. It was and is the responsibility of each state using migrants as their workforce to provide a better living for these grassroots level workers. Nitish is getting criticised for not coming forward to take back the migrants of his states. Unfortunately, both the states involved in case of the migrants, the state of their origin and the state where they work, must play a positive role in providing a better quality of life for these deprived persons. Till now majority of them live in slums, chawls or on the street in pathetic conditions in the places where they work. The governments of the centre as well as the states must consider their pathetic conditions on national priority for a built solution. The states of origin must create more opportunities for reducing the number of its migrants, as it shows the mismanagement by the governments over last seventy years. Some of the states where these migrants are using them as they are short of such persons from their own states who can do their work historically. As it stands, it is because of the very much varying of the job creations and prosperity levels of different states. However, in this particular related to Maharashtra, the political party whose head is the present chief minister, had been very much an anti- migrants historically. The CM must shun that policy of his party and work as the leaders of all the citizens of the state whosoever they may be. We all know that the states such as Bihar, UP, West Bengal, Odisha, MP have historically remained the suppliers of menial workers over years. These states had earned bad names for corruption, work ethics, and poor in providing education, skill, health care and inaction in creating job opportunities, as winning election has been the main task in which they have kept themselves engaged. It must change, and the people of these states must themselves must think of weeding out such politicians from the society.

Covid-19 chaos-Reason, Way-outs..

Sonia, Rahul and her loyal are fighting their last war as a survived lot with very obvious things as their demands. The government is already concerned and trying to mitigate all these issues and other problems. Nitin Gadkari, one of the most respected ministers for successful implementations of many policies of national priority, is taking all steps to see that MSMEs or migrant labourers and those in unorganised sector don’t suffer. What is the greatness in Sonia’s appeal for Rs. 1 lakh crore for MSMEs, Rs. 7500 cash for each poor family, and then asking the government to withdraw its temporary suspension of the DA increase of government employees? Are these all not being done or it is just to tell people that they still are in existence with the media giving good space for all their statements. I wish Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram who claim to be the best finance ministers would come forward and suggest also how to get sufficient money in public exchequer in detail without creating chaos. This is a critical testing time for any government in any poor highly populated country with the largest chunk as low middle and poor or even destitute. I wish all these persons who as individuals are rich enough to forego their remuneration and perks for the period of this calamity and set an examples for all such crorepati representatives of people in legislatures and encouraging them to do the same. At least now they must tell that all people of all communities must follow the discipline required though their actions for fighting the Covid-19 and win. Let their active members work on ground and spread the right message and help to do away with many myths that are still existing and flourishing in the country. The governments in so many years have failed to stop the growth of slums and those in power never asked their rich industrialists friends to take humane look at their grassroots employees, and never came out a with some guideline for keeping the ratio of earnings of the topmost and lowermost employees within an expected level something like dearness index or some suitable measures. The highly paid HRD executives and officer of the business establishments would have shown some concerns at least about the quality of living of the people working in those establishments at grassroots level. Unfortunately, it all started getting neglected after the great reform of 1990s of Manmohan Singh. Before that all manufacturing companies used to invest a lot for creating housing, hospital, schools, playgrounds, markets for their employees as part of investment. Hindustan Motors, Birla Jute Mills, Tata Steel, Bata, Tata Motors, Modi Industries and all at that time had that. With reform coming, some good alternatives would have been designed and mandated. It would have resulted in lesser miseries that we are seeing today because of Covid-19. Recently the great America based economists, and industrialists such as Rajiv Bajaj have been critical about the unplanned total and sudden clamp down and troubles caused by that. Could it be done by democratic processes? Perhaps never, and by now India would have been in the same horrible conditions as US and other European very much advanced countries are witnessing. Instead let the government and industrialists, town planners and corporations ponder over the suggestion coming out of Ratan Tata about the growing slums. https://www.financialexpress.com/economy/ratan-tata-says-redesign-slums-for-poor-moving-them-away-not-a-solution-better-quality-of-life-needed/1934083/
It is strange that a company like Maruti Udyog built its huge plant in Manesar in Haryana as the second location or in Sanand as third in Gujarat, but without any planning for the residential accommodations of their employees who directly maintain and run the plant with huge lot of machinery and infrastructure. Their highly paid young workmen also are living in some chawl-like accommodations with four or more persons in a small room. And all these chawls belong to small moneyed unscrupulous rich persons.
Solution: Provide free housing for these workers in millions under Prime Minister Awas Yojana creating townships at the periphery of the industrial towns such as clusters of MSMEs, special economic zones with export-oriented units. What is the point in making 100% of these houses in villages when it will be used for older parents there or those with no work living on the money sent by the migrated members of the family? Suggestion is meant for the situation after the lock down of Covid-19 that reported that ,”There are around 1.4 million workers residing in 26,476 relief camps in various states. Around 1 million migrant workers have already gone back to their villages, either by some mode of transportation or on foot.” There will be certainly a millions more living in the places where they lived earlier, may be ‘chawls or jhuggies present in different forms around integrated villages in Noida where the owner past land holders built them for exploiting these least earning unorganised labourers such home maids, security guards, sho assistants, delivery boys almost in all cities and towns of India in tens.
Can someone take this issue right up to PM through their media friends?

Ramayan Story: Myth or History

An Excellent Article Read Last Week:

Nanditha Krishna, a historian, author and environmentalist, and director of the CPR Institute of Indological Research in Chennai has published a wonderful article, ‘How Did Indian History Become Myth?’, about the historicity of Ramayana in The Open Magazine 31st March 2020. It is wonderfully written and with very rational logics and conclusions:

  1. It is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana, the ancient epic, the first one from among our seers.
  2. “..as the trio are about to enter Dandakaranya, Sage Bharadwaja warned them to beware of lions and tigers. Lions and tigers don’t share forest space had also been taught to us; so that was yet another myth in the epic. Till I went to Bhimbetka and saw a 10,000-year-old painting of a lion and tiger sitting together. If one fact was so wrongly presented by my good teachers, could the others be equally wrong?”
  3. “the Ramayana was damned for all time as a myth. The epics are known to us as itihasa—thus it happened. And to Hindus, there is no doubt that the events of the epic did happen.”
  4. “the original story of Rama, a historical biography, as narrated by Narada, which Valmiki uses as a prologue to his epic. Narada is very clear that Rama is a man, descended in the line of Ikshvaku. The pushpaka is the only extraordinary part of it.”
  5. Creativity distinguishes Valmiki’s poetic epic from Narada’s factual report. Rama is not a god, either to Narada or to Valmiki. But Valmiki is a poet. He goes on to elaborate the story in poetry, partially deifying Rama and creating the Ramayana. We have contemporary examples of people deified in their lifetime, such as the Shirdi and Sathya Sai Babas. Valmiki’s epic is filled with supernatural beings and events—flying monkeys, a ten-headed demon and so on. But why not? After all, his work had to be readable.
  6. “I deputed two of my botanists to study the plants and animals in the four forests of Chitrakuta, Dandaka, Panchavati and Kishkinda. Amazingly, the same plants and animals described by Valmiki still exist in these places. Nothing was fictitious. They went on to publish a book on Plant and Animal Diversity in Valmiki’s Ramayana (By M Amirthalingam and P Sudhakar), which I believe is a confirmation of the epic.“
  7. “Rama meets Sabari (of the Sabara/Saora/Saura/Savara/Sora tribe), a Munda ethnic tribe found in southern Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Even Megasthenes mentions the Saoras in his Indica…The Nishadas and Saoras still maintain that Rama visited them.”..”Several places maintain memories of Valmiki’s description of Rama’s visit.”
  8. “Vanaras headed by Nala built a bridge to Lanka from Dhanushkodi on Rameshwaram Island to Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. Parts of the bridge—the Nala sethu, as named by Rama—are still visible: NASA’s satellite has photographed an underwater bridge in the Palk Straits connecting Dhanushkodi and Talaimannar. The Mahabharata says it was protected out of respect for Rama, while several Chola and other rulers mention it. Several scientific bodies, including the National Remote Sensing Agency, have suggested that it was man-made. It lasted as a footbridge between India and Sri Lanka till 1480 CE when a major storm washed away parts of the bridge (according to CD Maclean, Manual of Madras Presidency, 1902).”
You yourself read it and you will get convinced about the historicity of Ramayana.https://openthemagazine.com/columns/guest-column/indian-history-became-myth/
I wish her to enlarge the subject that she has raised in this article. When I went through Ramayana myself years ago as well as when I visited Hampi, and then Rameshwaram by road, I was amazed about the geographical details of the travel route of Rama. I heard about the Ramayana-related places in Sri Lanka by one engineer friend, Shri Gehlot who had visited them. Why are our famous historians on ancient India so much biased? Can some one throw light on the geographical truth of the description that Valmiki provides when in Ramayana he describes the regions that the monkeys would find when their groups would go to the north, west and east too?

Shocking Media statement from manufacturers

Today one media report mostly dealing with auto manufacturers shocked me. I was surprised that in last 21 days, these well known auto- manufacturers were all enjoying without working on the different possible strategies to open in staggered manner after the government allows to open with some restrictions and conditions. Even in a company like Hindustan Motors that is dead so far auto making is concerned, I as chief of manufacturing faced this type of forced lock down because labour unIon and sudden floods, turning many of the departments in components manufacturing and thousands of machine requiring total drying up and maintenance services. I used to call my senior managers and plan how we would restore and start running the plants in quickest time. What should be our priority areas that must be attained with priority the urgent most first and the rest gradually. We did not have any mobile phone with possibilities of having all plant data in it.

With today’s infrastructure, every thing could have been planned by these auto OEMs, their vendors, and other service providers. Even every needed workmen could have been contacted and kept in knowledge of the companies’s strategies. How can these manufacturers with so little direct manpower employed because of the automation and other aiding equipment be remain in hold mood for almost four weeks? Let the government make them take their own decision. This must be expected for all the companies in such business. It is height of irresponsibility that the executives so huge salary packs were enjoying the lockdown as their providential off. It gives a very poor taste of the level of the national and ethical responsibility in all positions.

With so less manpower and automation is easier to maintain as discipline. Conveyor line workers’ inter- distance can be increased or they can work in multi-shift if required. I shall like the technocrats to note and react. I shall be ready to answer some questions if some from these industries poses to me to my best ability.

Corona-19 Lockdown Related Views

Calibrated reopening of essential sectors based on red, amber and green zones required with all precautions from all stakeholders: Every unit will have to spend some times with planning engineers and related services before calling the first line workers maintaining social distancing other disciplines agreed through a signed agreement. Exporting units of Textiles and apparels, pharmaceuticals, food processing, minerals and metal, besides e-commerce, automobiles and chemicals may be that list finally decided by nonpartisan experts. Can with our experience, we list the precautions?

Why should the country depend on import from China, when Indians can innovate and produce in so little time? Let the government and other business houses in manufacturing not encourage blind importing from China that has made the innovators of the country totally discouraged lot.
अपने देश में ही टेस्टिंग कीट का बनना चालू होगया है- मीडिया रिपोर्ट है, “At the end of last month when Pune-based MyLab Discovery Solutions announced that it has got the clearance for indigenously manufacturing Covid-19 test kits. The company claimed that the kit manufactured by them will reduce the country’s import dependence for test kits and enable low-cost, real-time testing. Deepak Kumar, official spokesperson of MyLab Said: “We have already supplied the first batch of MyLab Covid-19 Qualitative PCR kits that screen and detect the infection within 2.5 hours, compared to more than seven hours taken by existing protocols.”
“When the scarcity of ventilators became the talking point across the world as Covid-19 infected patients need to have support of this life system which provides an imitating flow of natural breath, Aerobiosys Innovations, an incubated startup of Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE) of the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-Hyderabad), came up with a solution. Aerobiosys Innovations made a low-cost, portable emergency use ventilator called “Jeevan Lite” which has the potential to equip the country to deal with the scarcity of ventilators in hospitals across the country.
“The Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Jeevan Lite to provide a low cost (Rs 1 Lakh approximately) option of the ventilator. Jeevan Lite can be operated through through an application.”
Later, the ventilator innovation bandwagon was joined by IIT Roorkee which also developed a low-cost portable ventilator called “Prana-Vayu”. While both startups from the IIT-Hyderabad and IIT-Roorkee are waiting for the certification clearance from the authorities concerned and the clearance will decide the course of the production, another reputed institution—the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)—is ready to produce ventilators from the end of this month. The early production of ventilators by the IISc is possible due to its innovative management of components. Scientists involved in the project are working round the clock to ensure the timely production of the ventilators. T.V. Prabhakar, Principal Research Scientist at the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE), is leading the project. As per a rough estimate, the country has around 56,000 ventilators and in case of mass spread of the virus, this number will fail to save lives. Pl. read the full story and appreciate the strength of our innovators. https://www.sundayguardianlive.com/business/india-using-innovation-arsenal-fight-coronavirus

Required a different India after getting read of Corona-19: Coomi Kapoor has given an impartial views on the political leaders like Harsbardhan, Kejriwal, Tablighi arrogance, Sharad Pawaar…The Parliament without politics must in clear terms declare a war against all the Indian citizens who don’t abide by the healthy peaceful living of our society. The responsibility dictated in constitution must be equally or more religiously and forcefully followed by all Indians rather than their rights to make the nation great. Honesty must be practised by every one from the poorest to the richest. Dishonest and anti-national activities activities must get penalised heavily with exemplary punishment. Bad habits like spitting and creating nuisance in the public places must not be socially permitted. Nonsense makers must not be tolerated by the society for any reason. The good performing politicians must be differentiate with those with vested personal interests. Media must adore those trying to make everything in India. The states must try to be self sufficient for daily needs like food, vegetable, fruits, etc. Why should all state depend on other states for essential food items, when our Mother Earth is so good to all the things almost in every part of the country? The must be made more responsible for providing jobs to their grassroots level. How could Bihar or some other states remain satisfied by just proving the menial labour to the whole country. Why the education and health sector of all the states must not be equal to the all India standard? How long the states live on excuses? Media must help the government to take right decision and must stop giving negative news or views just for TRP and earning huge salaries. Strangely, none of the media baron came up as donors for the PM Care Fund. Their all actions are with self survival…with loud mouth. The country must change for better with rethinking about our priorities. Every state must go digital…fast. All shanties must be replaced by the clustered cheap housing facilities with all services available.

How Germany kept Corona under control? If Germany can do, I am sure Indian big industrials plants can also keep running with certain workplace design by building in social distancing in its operations. Naturally our industrial managers will have to adopt ways and means to do it fast with our crude juggads that India is best at. I have been writing on the subject. However, the mission is not a great discovery. Our plants have been adaptable. Our technocrats can still do.

A great news: DRDO creates full body disinfection chamber and full face mask. “It comes with a roof mounted and bottom tanks and has a capacity of 700 litres and around 650 personnel can walk through before the next refill… Using their scientific endeavours to develop products faster, the DRDO labs are now working with industry partners for bulk production. With the help of M/s D H Ltd, Ghaziabad, in a short time of around four days, one of the labs of DRDO, Vehicle Research Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, has designed full body disinfection chamber called as PSE.” From FE

**
Thy right is to work only, but never to it’s fruits; let the fruit of action be not thy motive, nor let thy attachment be in action.
।।।।

**
Be concerned with actions only, never with its results,
Leave the results in the hands of the Supreme.
Let not the fruits of action be thy motive
Of the actions, or the crave of anxiety.
Perform actions free from attachments.
-Yajur Veda_40:2

Be Entrepreneur, Get into manufacturing

Be Entrepreneur, Get into manufacturing: The government intention and the country’s need require a new wave of enterprising young persons to get into the business of manufacturing in the sector such as electronics, and high tech manufacturing technologies using Artificial Intelligence, nano-technology, 3D printing, solar cells, the newer EV battery technologies, etc. The main objective is to make country self -sufficient with indigenous products, and go away from the policy of importing everything. Who can be the best entrepreneurs of these new enterprises with potential to become one day a global player?

  1. Every big companies employing highly talented educated youths must encourage their business-minded experienced technical personnels with aptitude to get into their own business in these sectors. Many private and companies like BEL, Tatas, Mahindra, L&T must encourage their employees.
2.All IITs and other top engineering colleges must train and encourage their students of every department, but certainly of electrical, electronics, telecommunication, aeronautics, chemical into entrepreneurship and startups rather than going for management. The government must grant special scholarships for the students with such potentials..
  2. Prime minister must request 10-15 reputed big industrialists such as Azimji Premji, Ratan Tata, A K Naik of L&T, Anand Mahindra, N R Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani to visit the engineering institutes and address the students to encourage them in the entrepreneurship in manufacturing rather than joining industry or management.
  3. The Prime Minister and some ministers such Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goel, Rajnath Singh or bureaucrats such as Amitabh Kant must also directly address the students of the technical institutes to attract them in manufacturing of all items required in all sectors for which the country is just dependent on import.

Govt has very rightly notified three pretty lucrative incentive schemes for electronics sector. But the opportunity must go to the right persons with aptitude foe innovation and entrepreneurship as discussed above. Let us look at this initiative, “The schemes that altogether offer incentives of nearly Rs 48,000 crore, were cleared by the cabinet last month. These include the promotion of manufacturing of electronic components and semiconductors, Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme, and Production Linked Incentive Scheme for large scale electronics manufacturing. The government’s notification states that the incentives for these schemes will be rolled out from 1st August and will initially be open for four months. “ Today the developing and manufacturing the world class products of fulfilling the huge demand in the country must be the first priority of the nation. Globalisation is on death bed. Situation such as Covid-19 must teach the country this.
