Oppenheimer is famous for his quoting Bhagwad Gita’s verse 32 of chapter 11. In a newly released film in US based on his biography of the scientist who is the father of Atomic bombs.
It has created hue and cry in the Hindu Community in US. Government of India’s Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar tweeted, sharing a statement from Save Culture Save India Foundation.
“ We do not know the motivation and logic behind this unnecessary scene on life of a scientist,” the statement read. “A scene in the movie shows a woman makes a man read Bhagwad Geeta aloud while getting over him and doing sexual intercourse.”The scene in question is where the main character Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) quotes a line from the Bhagavad Gita while making love to Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh). Perhaps, this is the new American film is getting made presently…..
PS
In July 1945, two days before the explosion of the first atomic bomb in the New Mexico desert, Robert Oppenheimer recited a stanza from the Bhagavad Gita, or The Lord’s Song.
However, as I remember he spoke of another verse after the bomb exploded over the two Japanese cities, I heard some on u- tube in a talk by a Swamiji and that was
Such is the light of this body of God as if a thousand suns had risen at once in heaven.
I do not which one is correct. But what American movie maker has shown is totally unacceptable. Bhagwad Gita is one the most respected scriptures all over the world and not only for Hindus. Many American scholars and others have said so.
American Film producers and writers have reached their zenith and they do not have anything but involving sex scene with such a respected scripture to make it saleable. One should feel ashamed for such fimmakers of any country. It is something like ‘Aadi Purush’ released recently on Ramayana epic in India by Bollywood.
