Primitive vs. Developed

I was shocked to see an elderly woman being physically tortured in a village in Bihar on TV news channels. It becomes masala news for the channels and casts aspersion on the people of the state. ‘Times of India’ has this news too. If you go to the link, you can see the video too.

Suspecting a woman of practising black magic, the villagers including women mercilessly beat up the woman faith healer and tonsured her head in Adalchak Dumaria village in Patna.

It appears many part of India, mostly but not essentially, the rural India still lives in the primitive era and behaves also like the society of beasts. It is only because of lack of proper education. But more than that the mass in India requires exposure too. Unfortunately, even many TV channels are trying to show stories perpetuating the witches and ghosts because it sells and it can do it because of freedom of press.

But it shocked me more when I went through a story from US that appeared in the same ediction of TOI: ‘US girl dies as parents chose prayer over docs’.

Madeline Neumann died of diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that left too little insulin in her body. She had been ill for a month, with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness. The girl’s mother, Leilani Neumann, said that she and her family believe in the Bible and that healing comes from God.

Human weaknesses are same. Education doesn’t make some one rational. But the individuals require some safeguard and protection from such abrasions.
