I wrote about Vaishali. You must have gone through that. Now the news report in Hindustan Times presents the public response:
Books, cash, support for Vaishali

Nagpur, July 28
A beautifully wrapped package arrived at the Hindustan Times Nagpur office on Tuesday. A few hours later, it was unwrapped by Vaishali Wankhede for whom it was meant at her one-room home in a city slum. Inside was a whole set of books she’ll require in her first-year MBBS. She was the inaugural beneficiary of the Ram Chand Khorwal and K. Anandi Jelia Memorial Book Bank at Delhi.
Readers of HT both in India and abroad delighted in her success, and admired the sheer grit of her mother Maya in cherishing her aspirations. But they also went beyond mere platitudes. They understood her apprehensions about a future without money and pitched in with help.
“People Speak” on the Hindustantimes.com saw the world community react with awe, respect, appreciation, affection and assistance from not just India, but the US, Canada, the UK, China, Australia, Switzerland, UAE, Belgium, the Philippines and Norway to name a few.
People have even got in touch with friends for collective aid after reading the reports. B. Das, formerly with DPS, Mathura Road, got in touch with some of his students who are based in the US and Australia in this connection. They have assured financial help not only for her studies but also agreed to foot her other expenses.
For some, the story touched an emotional chord. “After reading the news of your achievement, I could not hold back my tears,” wrote Rajesh Jethani from Delhi.
Said Sunil Prasad from Brussels, Belgium, “I hope Vaishali becomes a good doctor and serves those who can not afford healthcare because of financial problems. She has proved that poverty cannot stop people from achieving their goals. I would like to give her Rs 10,000 to buy books and other educational material.”
However, it is not clear if Vaishali can now shift to hostel wherefrom she can pursue her study better.I am sure she will be able to do that. The newa report doesnot give her address surely for a good reason. HT may be trying to have some copyright on the benevolent work it did.
