Noida- Rains Reign

I love to see raining. It used to be a great experience in West Bengal, where we lived the most of the life. I still remember my IPS friend Ram Pall Joshi narrating an incident of Hindu Hostel, which was our abode during Presidency days. I met him only once in 1997 after the college days. Joshi was my roommate. He came to see me in Maurya Sharaton, New Delhi. He started, “I still remember a night. He was worried when he didn’t find me on my bed. And when he tried to find out where I was at 2 a.m, he was amazed to find me in verandah of the hostel watching the rain outside.” I had unique liking for moving out in rain. I never used to carry umbrella while working at Hind Motor, as that was a sure way to enjoy getting drenched in rain.

In Noida, we get rain very scarcely. I miss the pleasure rain watching. Again, because of my age I can’t take risk of getting drenched too. Last week one day it rained heavily for some time. There was water logging outside. Yamuna was complaining about the drainage, as her beautiful green garden was all under water. Water from all over was rushing in that, as that is the lowermost. She has done many things many times, but it is still susceptible to water logging if it rains heavily. However, Noida has never planned for drainage in our area for drain water. I thought of writing a strong letter about the lack of its foresight in not providing for the drain. However, in evening I happened to visit Mr. YK Singh. As usual, as I was glancing through ‘Hindi Hindustan’, I found a big report with two photographs that showed the administrative buildings of Noida Authority under water. When it has not planned for its own buildings, how can I expect anything better for ours?
And the case is same everywhere in the country. The other day the whole of sector 5 of Salt Lake City in Kolkata, the prestigious for having the entire IT sector’s biggies including the huge complex of Wipro was under water. The story of Mumbai is by now known globally. Is it something that can’t be corrected or is it because no one ever is made accountable for this?
PS:
It’s sink or swim for Mumbai, even a year later
Same old story: Blame it on the rains
